Borosilicate
Borosilicate glass was first developed in Germany and used first in laboratory glassware (think mad scientist!) because it has a higher threshold for thermal stress. Meaning? It doesn't crack as easily under *heat* pressure.. You know the old saying - "If you can't stand the heat".. Well, Boro stuck around! Today it's most commonly known as Pyrex!
